Soul Sisters

Are you a secret bathroom diva?  Always wanted to sing but never dared? Perhaps you sing in a choir but would love to go solo? Or do you feel you could be a better singer with a bit more technique?

Soul Sisters is for you!

Starting January 2011 in Brighton and London Sarah will be hosting 10 one-and-a-half-hour group workshops (max 12 participants)to guide you to a more confident, expressive voice. We will be singing songs in the style of your choice, with the emphasis on popular songs in the soul/rock/blues/RnB/or singer-songwriter styles.

We will cover the building blocks of singing technique such as breath control, retraction, onsets etc (don't worry, all will be explained!). We will also learn tips for more soulful singing, ie conveying emotion to your audience, and microphone technique. Importantly you will also learn strategies to overcome performance nerves and silence your gremlins! There will be opportunities for you to sing solo as well as group work.

Brighton workshops will take place at Scream Studios, Enterprise Point, Melbourne St,(off Lewes Road) Brighton BN2 3LH.

At the end of the course you (yes you!) get your chance to perform at our end of course party, at an intimate local venue (location to be confirmed).

Please send your name, address and contact details including email if you have it to: the voicetrainer.co.uk, P.O. Box 63, Hove BN3 3XT. Please make cheques payable to: thevoicetrainer.co.uk.
N.B. Refunds are not possible for course places.

FAQs:

1. Q.I'm too terrified to sing solo!
   A. It's ok, there will be lots of group singing, and you will learn techniques to overcome that.

2. Q. I'm afraid I'll sing off key and get laughed at!
A.You're not alone there, but fear and tension are most often the cause of the problem. You'll be amazed how quickly you overcome that.

3. Q. My range is really limited, I can't sing high notes.
   A. It's all a matter of technique. You'll see. Really.

4. Q. Can my boyfriend come along?
   A. Sorry not this time. For practical reasons this is a women/girls only course. Men and boys are of course welcome for one-to-one coaching.

5. Q. Can my daughter come along?
   A. Yes, there will be an under 16's group, depending on demand. Contact Sarah for details.

6. Q. Should I bring anything to the first session?
   A. Just a bottle of water and your sense of humour. Oh, any ideas of songs you'd like to sing would be helpful. (Don't worry, sarah has lots of ideas if you don't...)

7. Q. What are the course times?
   A. 2 workshop groups are currently from 7pm to 8.30pm and 8.30 to 10pm. Further dates tba.
